Our Local Honored Hero – Alexis Buss

Each year The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) launches its Students of the Year fundraising campaign, and I was honored to join this year’s efforts as a 2019 Students of the Year candidate for team Wishful Workers. We will be raising money in the honor of Alexis Buss.

Alexis was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) on January 23, 2003. She went through 2/5 years of treatment at Loma Linda Children’s Hospital. She had 28 spinal taps, 5 surgeries, numerous transfusions, and 2.5 years of chemotherapy.

During her treatment, she wasn’t able to go to family events, parties, or anywhere for that matter. She really spent her time at the hospital or at home while her immune system was extremely low.

She has been in continued remission since she finished chemo in 2005. Alexis has been active in fundraising for LLS since diagnosis, and has reach the “Club 29” fundraising level every year during Light the Night (raising $2,900 or more). She would love to see a cure for blood cancers soon.

Alexis is currently a senior at Chino High School. She loves to read, sing, swim and watch movies!
